Extra Curricular Activities
ECA Clubs Offered at GOS for Key Stage 3 StudentsExtracurricular activities are a great way for pupils to meet new friends, learn new things or pursue their hobbies. Above all, studies show that students who are involved in school activities (clubs) earn higher grades and are more successful – both academically and socially, have a better attitude about learning and enjoy an increased sense of accomplishment, competence, and self-esteem. The GOS community is very enthusiastic about providing a wide range of clubs to the students. Details about their clubs are generally provided over announcements and via notices posted around the school. Parents and students should also feel free to contact their club advisor for more information.
Extra Curricular Activities for Key Stage 4 The integrated learning does not stop at the end of the regular school curriculum, extending to opportunities for students to explore areas of interest and community building after school hours. The extracurricular clubs offer the child opportunity for further growth in carefully supervised, developmentally appropriate activities. Young children need ample time for socialization, creative expression and physical activity. The clubs provide a range of experiences for students as well as allowing opportunities for students to work and play in mixed-grade settings within KS4.
The KS4 (YEARS 10 &11) clubs are running from 4 pm – 5 pm with the following schedule.
Monday: Music, Volleyball, Athletics

Moreover, they receive training in logic and higher order critical thinking skills that provide them with a solid foundation for both future studies and life’s other challenges. The GOS Chess Club prides itself in instilling a love of learning in our children, not for financial or other reward, but merely for the sake of learning new skills.
Year 7
Creative writing:- Creative Writing Club is the opportunity for students to explore and cultivate their imaginative urges. We look at different writing techniques and genres, as well as exemplar pieces of literature, in order to inform and improve the students own creative writing. The aim of the club is to enjoy the creative process and, eventually, produce pieces of work that could be put forward for publication.
English Movie Club:-This is a fun club where students watch movies and in turn get to improvise their spoken English.
Guitar Lessons:- The club gives students the opportunity to learn the basic guitar chords and strumming patterns used in many pop and rock songs. In addition to this we do technique exercises designed to improve the player’s ability to move their fingers quickly and smoothly around the fret board. The club is hosted by the Green Oasis' guitar heroes - Mr. David Drabble and Mr. Chris Ammons.
Chinese Reading:- 俱乐部:引导学生听读中国经典故事并讨论学习心得体会,各自发表感言也可以学生相互交流读过的经典文章,互相学习交流,拓展知识空间,激发课外阅读的热情
Year 8
Backgammon:-- The club currently has 10 players in year 8 playing the game and each has made up their own playing board by themselves. Backgammon is one of the oldest board games for two players. The playing pieces are moved according to the roll of dice, and players win by removing all of their pieces from the board. There are many variants of backgammon, most of which share common traits. Backgammon is a member of the table’s family, one of the oldest classes of board games in the world.
Model Making:-- The Model Making Club offers the opportunity to build and perfect models of all varieties. At the moment we have a model of the Capitol in Washington, a small cottage and paper planes being constructed. There is a quiet, busy atmosphere in the room, and we often have background music playing.
Environment Club:-- The Environment club aims to make everyone in Green Oasis School more environmentally aware and also to try to reduce the carbon footprint of Green Oasis staff and students.Following Activities are offered in this club:• Designing of some posters (for every class room) targeting forgetful students & teachers who do not switch off the air conditioners etc.• Design posters reminding students to switch off TVs’, computers and not leave them on standby, reduce water consumption, recycle cans, paper, Plastics, clothes, mobile phones etc.• Clothing appeal –gets students and staff to bring in old Clothes which would eventually be donated by them to an orphanage or charity in and around Shenzhen.Last but not least, in order to reduce our carbon footprint even more the club is going to establish an organic garden on the roof of our school.
Ultimate Frisbee:-- Ultimate is a noncontact, fast paced field sport played with two teams of at least seven. The object is to throw a Frisbee (flying disc) up the field from teammate to teammate until it’s caught in the opponent’s end zone. The game combines elements from other sports - the running of football, the jumping, pivoting, passing and continual turnovers from offence to defense of basketball, and the long bombs into the end zone of rugby. It’s played year-round, and we need more players- so if you like the sound of Ultimate Frisbee, come join us on Thursday afternoons!
Block Printing:-- Students, in this club are encouraged to use block printed imagery as a basis for experimental means of communication, using the inquiry cycle of investigating, planning, creating and evaluating as a procedural basis, attempting to create something with originality that will impact on an audience. Individual themes are important, as is reference to key elements of art such as line, shape and colour, plus acknowledgement of graphics in our everyday environment. Correct use of tools and equipment is practiced and an adventurous, responsible approach to creativity is nurtured.
Year 9
Scrabble:- Every Friday afternoon a mixed group of over a dozen Year 9 students meet to play Scrabble. They split into two or three groups. While sometimes they need to think at some length about creating a word, they are often very quick and imaginative in their use and range of vocabulary.
Table Tennis:- The Table Tennis club offers a relaxing exercise period which is good for the students after sitting and studying in the classroom. All the students have the opportunity to play games which improve hand and eye coordination, stretch leg and arm muscles that have been inactive previously. It also gives the students the chance to interact socially and behave responsibly by setting up the tables for play, and tiding up the gymnasium after the club for lessons on Monday.
Latin:- The Latin Club gives the students the opportunity to introduce themselves to the ancient Latin language. We also look at colourful books about Roman and learn about Roman and ancient European history. Gradually, the students will grasp the importance and impact of this dead language.
International Film club:-- The film club is an opportunity for students to explore different cultures, histories and languages through the medium of film. The club encourages students to share their thoughts and feelings about the films they watch and to become critical viewers rather than passive cinema goers.
