Frequently Asked Questions
- In the introduction passage about GOS it is stated that progression to SCIE senior school is automatic after year 11. Can you please clarify?
There is a qualification here in that candidates for entry to SCIE must satisfy the academic criteria which are set for internal students completing the G2 level at SCIE. At the present time this means a minimum of four subjects that can be taken at A level plus English language. For core subjects this means a minimum pass at C level at IGCSE but it is preferred that a B minimum might be considered more useful with the introduction of A*. For optional subjects not taken at IGCSE e.g. Economics or Biology a separate internal test needs to be sat to show some aptitude in these subjects to gain access to these courses.
2. How many subjects must students study at IGCSE level i.e. year 10/11?
Students entering year 10 take 5 core subjects: English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and PE. (PE is not a compulsory examination subject) In addition they take three options subjects from the following subjects currently on offer: Geography, History, Global Perspectives, Business Studies, English Literature, Chinese + another foreign language dependent on which teachers are available and individual’s choice) Music, Art, IT and PE. More subjects may be on offer in the future. A correct combination of subjects is necessary for the Award of the International Certificate of Education (ICE). More details can be obtained from the Parents’ Handbook.
